Avion Reserva 44 Extra Anejo Tequila

I love tequila. Some of my most memorable evenings have been enjoyed drinking tequila. There haven’t been many, but the ones I have had are memorable. Today is Tequila Thursday, so this is an appropriate pour for today!

The Avión story begins in the small town of Jesus Maria, Mexico. Here, single origin, blue agave is grown at some of the highest elevations for 7 – 10 years. A multi award winning tequila, Avión is crafted with a simple philosophy… committed to creating a single origin tequila that embodies the best of craft processes to ensure the natural, rich, and roasted flavors of the Avión agave.

Aged 43 months in petit barrels that are rotated daily. The agave is roasted with hints of vanilla and warm spices lending to a complex flavor of ripe, luscious fruits and American Oak. Best in Class – Platinum Award 2019 SIP Awards

  • Preparation: Depends. I would recommend tasting this as it is, maybe with a slight chill. If I were to be drinking it, I would squeeze a bit of fresh lime.
  • Glass: Glencairn to taste. With the subtle aromas that can exude from tequila, a tighter glass works better for tasting.
  • Cocktail Potential: Margarita. Or OTR with a twist of lime. Call it a Mexican Martini.
  • Available for Sale: Yes – JJ’s VIP Price – $119.99

Tom’s Tasting Note: I mentioned earlier, I love tequila. This one is no exception. The vanilla, the oak, the spice and the bite. They all work together for this harmonious experience. People have been clamoring for Don Julio 1942 for months now, but we can’t get any (COVID). They often turn their nose up at Avion 44. In the words of Juila Roberts in the character of Vivian Ward… “Big Mistake! Huge!”. If you are going to make this into a margarita, here is the recipe… 2oz Avion 44… 1oz Grande Marnier… 1/2oz FRESH Lime Juice… 1/2oz Organic Agave Nectar. Shake ingredients and pour UP in a martini glass with a salted rim.
