Tattersall Barreled Gin – JJ’s Single Barrel Knob Creek
Ok, so this is a little bit of a self serving pour on this Friday in December. Partly because I am very proud of this product, but mostly because we bottled it two years ago, and it’s still here! We haven’t really determined the reason for the slow sale on this one, other than the fact that the liquid kind of looks like urine. That being said, I am open to criticism from you gin drinkers, so let me know your thoughts in the comments.
This is a fruit forward gin with chamomile and honeysuckle on the forefront. It was aged in our Knob Creek 11th Edition Barrel for six weeks before it was bottled (by me) at Navy Strength, meaning high proof. I wanted it bottled this way so that you would get more of the bourbon character in the gin, where if you proofed it down to 80, it would eliminate some of that character.
- Preparation: Cold, so either refrigerate or pour over ice and let it sit for a minute or two.
- Glass: Double Old Fashioned glass.
- Cocktail Potential: Lots of options, but with Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic, it is to die for!
- Available: Goes without saying, and it’s only $29.99/bottle for JJ’s VIP members!
Tom’s Tasting Note: I don’t drink gin, but I love this gin, because it doesn’t taste like gin. Chamomile, lemon grass, honeysuckle, mint, leather and touch of vanilla and oak. This gin is certainly not for everyone right out of the bottle, but certainly has great potential in most cocktail concoctions.
I like this… Then again, I am a bourbon guy. It actually has a surprisingly nice lingering finish. I didn’t realize you had it; but, the price is right! Tonic or a large cube of ice. Put me down for a bottle.
What was the gin that went into the barrel?
It was Tattersall’s base gin that they typically bottle at 80 proof.
Love the way the juniper still comes through on the nose.
Tastes like I’m in an evergreen forest, drinking rain drops that come off of pine trees – it’s pretty great.
Definitely going to have to stop by and grab a bottle of this.
String pine notes, string pine taste. I’m not really a gun guy. :/
