Glenmorangie 12 Year Old Nectar D’Or
When it comes to Scotch, I can honestly say there aren’t too many that I would classify as, “I have to have that”, or “the best ever”. That being said, for a product that is always available, and fairly affordable, this is the best Scotch I have had the pleasure of enjoying.
From the Glenmorangie Website: This whisky was born from the memory of entering a pastry shop for the very first time. It’s about that first moment of finding your senses deliciously overwhelmed, breathing in the sweet scents and wishing you could take a bite of every creamy, flaky treat you see. In Nectar D’Or you can taste it all.
To create it, we take the delicate, fruity spirit of our giraffe-high stills and age it in American oak bourbon casks along with casks that once held Sauternes sweet white wine. The outcome is like a silky dessert-filled daydream of white chocolate swirled with lemon cream, crème caramel, almond croissants… all balanced by a soft drumbeat of spice. Each sip is like sending your senses on holiday to a French patisserie.
- Preparation: None, but don’t let it get warm. A slight chill is preferred, it quells some of the sweetness.
- Glass: Glencairn
- Cocktail Potential: I wouldn’t, simply due to price, and it drinks really nice neat.
- Available: Yes. JJ’s VIP Price – $89.99/bottle
Tom’s Tasting Note: As indicated above, this is hands down my favorite Scotch that is available to purchase regularly. Maybe it’s my fondness of Sauterne wines, maybe its the meticulous nature to which it is crafted, but either way, it’s really good. Honey, light leather, sweet cantaloupe, light toast and a long, lingering finish reminiscent of drinking Sauternes. Highly recommended.
Notes of Apple cider, trailing taste of cantaloupe. A nice, smooth drink.
Very friendly, if a little bit unexciting of a scotch.
90 dollars seems a bit steep, it’d be a must have if it was closer to the 50 dollar range
Getting to this one a bit late, I enjoyed the slight sweetness of this one. I may need to get a bottle of to add to my collection. I may also need to purchase a bottle of Sauternes for my wife to try!
Lots of fruit. I get peach and nectarine. Super smooth. I really like this.
