Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel – 2020

Probably one of the most requested (non-Pappy, non-BTAC) whiskey this year, once the news hit that it was coming to market. It’s crazy how intrigued folks were by this very limited release product from our friends at Heaven Hill Distillery.

Twice barreled for added complexity, Toasted Barrel takes the award-winning Small Batch Bourbon to new heights. After it’s fully matured, they finish this Bourbon in a second, custom toasted new oak barrel, where it’s left to develop even more sweet oak flavor.

  • Preparation: Slightly chilled, not diluted, it’s only 94 proof
  • Glass: Glencairn
  • Cocktail Potential: Certainly, as all good bourbons have cocktail potential. This bourbon has delicate aromas from the second barrel that would go un-noticed in a cocktail, however. Neat, slightly chilled is the best way to enjoy this.
  • Available: Yes, tomorrow (12/23/2020) we will be raffling a bottle of this in our final whiskey raffle of 2020. Along with a Larceny Barrel Proof (C920), an Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (C920) and a bottle of Parker’s Heritage #14 – 10 Year Old Heavy Char.

Tom’s Tasting Note: The hype over this bourbon was crazy, so I couldn’t wait to try it. Aromas and flavors of tea, new leather, cinnamon, cedar, and jasmine. Some nostalgic notes of peach jam and brown sugar evolve on the nose with a touch of savory spice.
