Nick, Jim & Tom with Aunt Lori at her High School Graduation in 1979.

It’s been a bit of a week so I, for one, am happy the weekend is here! For a variety of reasons, but first and foremost, because I get to spend tonight with my siblings celebrating younger brother, Jim’s, birthday. Jim turns 45 today (he was two in the photo) and is wishing he could spend his birthday with his family still stuck in AZ, but he will have to settle for his two older, and wiser, siblings to celebrate the start of the downhill spiral to 50. We haven’t quite nailed down an itinerary for tonight’s festivities, but I am certain we will have a good time! He will be back at the helm at Whimp’s and Toby’s tomorrow, so if you see him, be sure to wish him a Happy Birthday!

Side note… Do you live, or know anyone who lives in the Vermillion, Yankton, Gayville, Burbank, Elk Point, North Sioux City, Jefferson area? We are hiring for cooks and bartenders at both Whimp’s and Toby’s as we get ready for busy summertime activity in both places! Great opportunities to learn some skills, meet some great people and make some pretty decent money! If interested, please email – jim@slatteryweb.com to set up an interview!

Tomorrow night, we are hosting the hybrid virtual.in-house event Cocktails for a Cause supporting Breathe Bravely and those affect by Cystic Fibrosis. This is the second year of this event, and the team has been busy the last few days assembling event kits. The event is sold out, so please do not try to sneak your way in!

And with that, it is the end of April. Another month gone by way too fast. It would be nice if the weather was a little more amenable. We were supposed to have our Mobile Beverage service out at Ronkin Field this weekend for Augie-USF Baseball games. But Mother Nature is not going to be our friend, so it was decided to scrap the beverage service. Mostly due to schedule changes to play around the inclement weather. So, if you are planning on taking in some crosstown rivalry baseball and softball, be sure to check schedules before you head out!

If you are looking for something else to do… How about Axe Throwing and a few other fun activities!

JJ’s AXES & ALES – STAY & PLAY!

Have you seen “The Gameroom” at JJ’s Axes & Ales? It’s pretty sweet. We have two pool tables in there, plus we added three electronic dartboards and Video Lottery!

When you purchase a “Private Cage” Axe Throwing Package, we are throwing in a few games of pool or darts, along with your axe throwing experience!

We just got the windows blacked out in The Gameroom, plus we added a new sound system, so the vibe is pretty sweet. Visit https://www.jjsaxes.com to book some time for axe throwing, or just stop in during normal business hours and shoot pool, darts or try your luck with video lottery! We are open from 12:00pm to 10:00pm Tuesday through Saturday. And 12:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday!

May Product Expo

Looking forward to next week, we have quite a bit going on starting Tuesday with our May product EXPO in JJ’s Event Room! This is a FREE event from 5:30pm to 7:30pm where you can sip on some samples of new adult beverage items or revisit some old favorites! We will have approximately 40 items on display. This monthly event continues to grow bigger and bigger, so be sure to tell your friends about it! JJ’s Bar is open serving our full menu until 8:00pm, so you can grab a bite to eat after you’ve made it through the EXPO!

Also, next week is Cinco De Mayo on Thursday and then the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday! We will have a special Tequila Thursday feature flight on Thursday along with LIVE music and amazing food. On Saturday it’s all about the Mint Juleps! And you may get to take home a souvenir Julep cup! Watch next week’s emails and correspondence for more info on that!
