Happy Whisk(e)y Wednesday! And thank you for clicking the link to view this newletter. As we continue to fight the “rules of engagement” in modern day retail, we rely heavily on tools and “tricks of the trade” to keep people informed of what we have going on. We have some big things coming up, but none bigger than the 2026 Sioux Falls AirShow next weekend! As some of you know, I serve on the Executive Board of the Sioux Falls AirShow with the official title of 2nd Vice Chair. I have been serving on this board for 7 years now and have found it to be extremely rewarding. Mostly because of the people I work with who are all committed to the same things… community, education and aviation. (If you are only here for the Whisk(e)y Wednesday news, just scroll down…)
Our board and organization serve a couple of purposes. The primary purpose is to put on the biggest event of the year, every three years, in the state of South Dakota. Our other purpose is to educate through our STEM event that we do annually called Discover Aviation Day. This is kind of a mixed bag of activities that offer opportunity for young people to engage in all things Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics geared towards aviation, and also a career fair for those seeking opportunities in general aviation and military aviation.
Discover Aviation Day this year is on July 16th. The event will be held at Maverick Air Center and runs from 10am to 4pm. It’s an open house style event so you can come and go as you please. It’s also a free event courtesy of our Sioux Falls AirShow sponsorship partner, Aerostar. Click this link – Discover Aviation Day | Sioux Falls Airshow – to learn more about it, then come on out! I will be driving a golf cart shuttling people from the parking lot. So be sure to say hello!
THEN, get ready for Power on the Prairie! The Air Force Thunderbirds and many other amazing acts will be tearing up the skies of Sioux Falls on July 18th & 19th! This is also a FREE event and that is made possible by some great community sponsors. If you are looking for a VIP experience, there are still a few tickets available for purchase. JJ’s will have a bigger presence at the Sioux Falls AirShow this year with what we are calling JJ’s Landing Strip Pub. This will be an area in the “North 40” of the grounds where you can purchase an adult beverage. We will be providing more details on this early next week (products offered, payment options, etc.) This is the first time we have offered adult beverages in the free general admission area, and we are excited to bring this enhanced element to the AirShow!
In the meantime, more fun stuff coming up this week, and it all starts tonight with Whisk(e)y Wednesday LIVE! and our good friend Chad Madsen providing some tunes!

- Thursday – Part of the “Home Grown Series”, Brandon Jones (Black Hills) will be on stage with some country tunes.
- Friday – Celtic Rock Band “The Elders” will be bringing high energy as part of the World Genre Series.
- Saturday – Artist in Residence at Augustana University, Matthew Whitaker, will be on the stage with his piano. You do not want to miss this one!
JJ’s Bar at the Levitt opens at 6:00pm (except where noted above) before every concert with Happy Hour at The Levitt until the live music starts. $2 off all drinks!
