Good morning and Happy Whisk(e)y Wednesday! As we roll through Bourbon Heritage Month, tonight we offer an homage to Doc Crow. See below for the details on tonight’s Feature Flight and Allocated Bottle Raffle, but first… Who is Doc Crow?

Dr. James C. Crow (often referred to as Dr. James Crow or “Doc” Crow), a Scottish physician and chemist who revolutionized American whiskey making in the 1830s. By applying scientific methods to distillation at Kentucky’s Old Oscar Pepper Distillery, Crow systematically perfected and standardized the sour mash process. His rigorous use of the saccharometer and hydrometer to monitor sugar and alcohol levels transformed bourbon from a harsh, wildly unpredictable frontier moonshine into a consistent, refined spirit aged systematically in charred oak barrels. Widely regarded as the architect of modern bourbon production, his techniques became the standard for the entire industry, and the iconic Old Crow brand was named in his honor.

LIVE Music on The Patio

This coming Saturday, our good friend Dylan Howard will be LIVE on JJ’s Bar patio from 6:30 to 9:00pm! Might be a little chilly as Fall weather starts to sneak in, but we have plenty of ways to keep you warm with great drinks and great food!

USD Watch Party

The USD Coyotes take on Boise State on Saturday night at 9:00pm (CDT). We will be hosting a watch party in the newly revamped JJ’s Axes and Ales! The game will be on in the event space and in the main venue with audio. Come to JJ’s Bar and enjoy food and drinks before the game.

Changes Coming to The Event Room

We are nearly complete with our renovation of JJ’s Axes & Ales with some pretty big changes! Stop in and see what we did. We are leaning into a few more fun activities outside of axe throwing. Adding a couple more pool tables, dart boards and a Golden Tee for starters. We have also expanded our hours. We are now open to the public again Tuesday through Thursday 4:00pm to 10:00pm and Friday & Saturday 12:00pm to 10:00pm. No reservations required, just stop in! If you went to the Augustana Football home opener last weekend, you may have noticed something different with adult beverage service and sales… JJ’s was not there.

This was not our decision, but a decision was made by the university to move in a different direction when it comes to alcohol sales at Augustana sporting events and other events on campus. Internalizing alcohol sales with campus food and beverage provider, Sodexo.

This will apply to all sports, including hockey at Midco Arena and activites in the Elmen Center.

For twenty years, my purpose, in different ways, has been to engage the student athletes, parents, alumni, boosters and coaches. And in recent years, provide an enhanced fan experience with JJ’s Beer Garden(s) at KO Stadium and The Elmen Center, JJ’s Viking Club at Midco Arena and other elements where adult beverages were served and sold.

Our team went above an beyond to fulfill the mission. The mission was about building community and building a sports culture through what we provide as adult beverage professionals. We did our job and we did it well. We invested a great deal of time, resources, assets and ideas to build this element into the game day experience since the first day that we sold a beer on campus going back to October 12th, 2019. The first day ANY alcohol was sold on a college campus in the state.

We will continue to celebrate, support, cheer, and engage the student athletes, parents, alumni, boosters and coaches. Just in different ways with the time and means that we have available to us.

Tonight’s Feature Flight is an homage to Doc Crow and some brands that he had an historical impact on. It will be a blind flight and you will be tasked with matching the whiskey with the brand! Extra chances for the raffle are on the line! Flight price is $10 (Regularly $20, but it’s Whisk(e)y Wednesday so all flights are half price!)

We don’t want to give you time to research the items on tonight’s flight, so the brands will be revealed when you order your flight. You just have to figure out which is which!
